The fear of 'unknown'

Our senses are capable of perceiving best what goes on their immediate surroundings. The local 'cause and effect' and 'action and reaction' sequences are normally sensed well  because their correlations are evident  to many fairly accurately. This includes social, biological and some physical  "causes" and "actions" operating on our senses in daily lives.

For example, we can , to a great extent, predict the outcome of  KARMA and GYANA, the action and knowledge, on the welfare of the self and the society. We categorise them into 'virtues', ' values' and 'righteous' conducts , or, their  opposite counterparts .

However, the effects or reactions of distant and unknown forces and events are beyond the reach of our senses to affect  accurate prediction. For example, we may not  be in a position to predict the cosmic, climatic, geological, pathological or mechanical accidents to any fair degree of certainty. Why they occur and affect some individuals badly while leaving others cheaply? This factor is collectively called 'providence' or DAIVAM..Normally this is not in our hands. The Karma and Gyana are in our hands but not the Daivam. This element of 'unknown' causes fear psychosis in many of us.This also  happens to be the driving force for many research efforts to empower mankind to grapple with the problem.

Those having very little or  no enquisitive minds fall prey to superstitions, misplaced faiths, illogical beliefs, abhoring cults, apalling rituals, meaningless rites and unreasoned concepts about gods, goddesses and the God Himself. The fear of 'unknown' haunts them in different measures. In an effort to rationalise the wrath or benevolence of providence, mankind  has struggled throughout its history to "explain" the ' unexplanable' unknown. It is struggling today also.

Since the  'unknown' is  vast and infinite, there are two ways to tackle it.Either to 'surrender' or continue to decipher the mystry. The limited bioconsciousness can't expect to reach the  limits of 'infinite'.Surrender, therefore, is imminent. The question is when?

The superstitious ones will 'surrender' without giving a fight while the  progressives and  enquisitives, having scientific bend of mind, will never know when to surrender. The latter continue their  quest knowing fully well never to reach the limite of infinity. They go deeply inwards in search of outwardly world.

The superstitious ones surrender to the unknown in different ways. They seek solace from outwardly worship. They pray from the outside power or super power, that is unknown, for their welfare. They seek solace in  outside entities like kings, queens, gurus, priests, idols of gods, goddesses and the God and many other confusing practices to please them for their favours and welfare. The physiological working of human mind is such that they seem to get rewarded for their prayers.

Those having broader sphere of cognition may not be that supertitious and may try to find solace within. They may not find any merit in surrender before an outside authority. But surrender within ourselves may prove rewarding to them. They may be designated as agnostics or atheists. They don't surrender before the 'unknown' but give company to it, always cherishing  its presence within. For happiness, peace and virtuous life, turn within and fear of unknown should not be entertained;rather seen in proper perspective so that  our consciousness can tolerate, adapt, withstand and even  enjoy it as it is.Strive to have the state of SAT CHIT ANANDA, the Truth Conscious Bliss.
